Eugene Atget [Historical Photographer]

All artists are inspired by something. It might be the things they see around them, but often it is from another artist. Bernice Abbott (who I blogged about yesterday) was inspired by this man, Eugene Atget. She saw the photographs he took of Paris and thought they were worth noticing. She purchased a good amount of his negatives in Paris and took them to America to get recognition.

Much like Abbott, Atget wanted to show the stark contrasts that appear in Parris, the mansions and the more humble homes. He did not obsess over equipment or processes, but just wanted to show Paris for what it was; the people, the places, and the activites.
